This may seem like a strange title for a blog post, however, it is fitting for me as I have learned much in the last three weeks. I find it amazing that one continues to learn no matter ones age.
As many of you know, I wrote about it here, I have been taking care of my Father, and now my Mother also, while my Mother recuperates from a knee replacement surgery.
In these past three weeks I have learned that there is beauty and a dignity to aging if done well.
I have come to admire my Father's routines. Each morning he dresses and shaves. He puts on a white shirt and tie. He is 95 years old.
I have his favorite breakfast waiting for him. After breakfast he goes to the family room with his Newspaper, that he reads from beginning to the end as he sips on the Root Beer that I bring to him. He has a small lunch at noon.
For dinner he asks me to make his favorite dishes...such as the stuffed peppers that I made last week.
Memories flood my mind as I walk around my Parents home, that I have known for forty eight years. I touch and stroke items that they have treasured for many years. There is a time line here of my art and craft, as my parents display every item I have made and given them.
I have given my Mother angels every Christmas since I was a little girl. Here is one I made and gave her in the 80's.
My Mother has been home now for a almost a week. I am touched by the love and caring they show each other. That my Father got up in the middle of the night to help my Mother to the bathroom.
She is doing well...and makes her bed every morning. She is able to walk around the house with only the aid of a cane. I find that amazing for a woman of 86. She is a good role model.
Tomorrow Ken and I will prepare a Thanksgiving Dinner here in my parents home. We have invited friends that spend every holiday with us.
We are thankful for our family and friends far and near and wish you a Very Happy Thanksgiving.
Thank you for staying with me and for being my friend. xoxo
